Here’s everything Apple revealed about the iPhone 16 during its back-to-school keynote.
This Monday, September 9, 2024, Apple unveiled its latest smartphone model, the iPhone 16, during its traditional back-to-school keynote . As expected, the Cupertino firm presented at length the specifications of the different versions of the product, namely the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which will be available for pre-order on September 13, 2024 and marketed the following week. Here is everything that was revealed during this live-streamed event, where other innovations such as the Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4 were also unveiled.
Everything you need to know about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, while its Plus variant has a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display. The design, with aluminum bezels and a glass back, remains largely similar to the previous generation . Both of these more affordable models still feature Dynamic Island, and are compatible with Wi-Fi 7.
Adding the Action button
Introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Action button, which replaces the switch to activate or deactivate Silent mode, is integrated into all new models in the range. It acts as a shortcut to activate a feature “such as turning on the flashlight, recording a voice memo or activating Silent mode” , the firm explains.
A new touch button for the camera
As rumors suggested, an additional button is making its appearance on all versions of the iPhone 16. Entirely dedicated to the camera, the touch button named Camera Control, located in the lower right corner, will offer
“faster access to photo and video tools ,” Apple specifies. In other words, it will allow you to take a photo instantly, open the zoom adjustment controls, or change the exposure or depth of field.
The camera changes relatively little. Its
“advanced dual-camera system” features a 48MP main sensor, a 2x optical-quality telephoto lens, and a 12MP wide-angle camera with autofocus.
Integration of the A18 chip
“Tailor-made” for its new models, the A18 chip, featuring a new architecture, a six-core CPU, a five-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, would offer up to 30% better performance than the A16 Bionic, used by the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, according to Apple. The integration of this next-generation technology will allow these models to support Apple Intelligence features , which will be deployed from October in the United States and later in Europe. It will also offer access to “advanced features” on the camera, as well as better battery life.
